Whereas TCM is very serious and gritty in tone, TCM2 is almost slapstick and goofy. It's such a departure that I understand initial critic reactions to it when they go from 1 to 2 and are like .. wait what??? It's super jarring if you're not aware of it, yet somehow it REALLY works.
TCM2 is my favorite in the series of all of the ones I've watched. It cracks me up every time I watch it, and I always seem to find something else new about it with every new viewing. I got to show this to my teenagers for the first time after seeing TCM1 and having no context. That was really fun for me!
After the events of the last movie, the Sawyers had to find a new place to live. Those damn kids invading their house ruined everything! They kinda-sorta lay low, but they also still sell BBQ and win awards for their chili. Something about it is just 🤌🏻 and regular people can't figure out what it is. I think you know, though, don't you?
This movie starts fast and keeps going until the end. The frat douches in the beginning are great. Chop Top is such a great evolution of the hitch hiker. Leatherface is odd and sympathetic but also fun? Old Drayton is just perfect in this movie, taking any of the weirdness from his acting in the first and really running with it in this one. Stretch is perfect in her role and LG is great as a big brother type. Oh yeah, and Dennis Hopper is a dual chainsaw-wielding maniac in this.
In terms of pacing, it's perfect. As I said, it's basically nonstop action from the get-go. It has a lot of funny moments in it as well, so it's not like a tense ride. I don't really want to give anything away about it so I'll leave it at that.
