I'm the love witch! I'm your ultimate fantasy! If you're in for a fever dream filled with candy colors, anachronisms, and a bizarre plot, boy do I have a movie for you. The Love Witch is incredibly stylish and has a strange vibe throughout. The first time I watched this, I wasn't sure if the lead actor was awful or what, but I watched some interviews where she said it was a choice for the role. It does fit the movie. I'm not a fan of her witch compatriots due mostly to how creepy they are, but there is a point where they get into a sort of fight with locals that was funny.
I've seen some critiques of this movie that play it up as a deep and meaningful allegory for real world issues, but to be perfectly frank, there's very little substance to it. I think people want it to mean more because without reading into it, it's a bizarre trip with a super hot lead doing some goofy stuff. I love witches, though, so obviously The Love Witch is on the good side of mediocre for me.
Recommended?
This is a tough movie to recommend. It takes a certain type of person to enjoy it.
