It's October, which means it's time to catch up on some horror movies that I missed out on during the summer. That's not to say that they came out in the summer and I missed them, but I tend to watch fewer movies during the summer. Riveted? I thought so.
Open Water is a movie I had heard of before and remembered thinking people liked it. I haven't verified that, so give me ONE MINUTE to look it up. 5.8 out of 10 on IMDB. I think that's too generous.
Without spoiling the ending of this movie, I'll at least tell you what it's about in case you have never heard of it. A couple goes on a scuba diving adventure and is left behind in the ocean alone with no supplies. Just their wet suits and scuba equipment they came with. That happens within 30 minutes, while the movie plods along for another 50 or so after. You're probably thinking to yourself "that's less than an hour and a half, it must be a well-paced horror movie!" Unfortunately, much of this movie is them lingering about in the water being scared of sharks. That's basically the story. You might also think that there would be some great relationship drama given the scenario, but aside from a few comments here and there, nothing really happens.
That's the biggest problem with this movie. Nothing really happens. If you know the story it's based on, the ending is predictable. You may not know specifics of what will happen, but you have a rough idea. Aside from that, what's the point of watching it? There isn't much acting since it's mostly two people bobbing around in the water. They're fine for what they're doing I guess, but who cares?

If you're having trouble falling asleep, this will assuredly put you into a coma. Otherwise, skip it.
