ACC Week In Review
Each conference has their power tier teams, a middle tier, and then.. the rest. The ACC is no different. We'll go tier by tier and see if any teams have shifted each week. Coming into this week, that tiered system went as follows:
Tier 1: Clemson
Tier 2: Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Miami, Pitt, Virginia, NC State
Tier 3: Florida State, Louisville, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Duke
Tier 1
NO ONE
Tier 2
Wake Forest
Wake gave Virginia the business in their own building. They're possibly the only chance for the ACC to make the playoff, and I'm not sure you want to hang your hopes on Wake. They're due for a botched game.
Tier movement: +1
NC State
They beat Clemson, but looked pretty blah doing it. I know Clemson has a good defense, but NC State had a few chances to put it away and couldn't do it. They need improvement on the special teams side.
Tier movement: none
Clemson
I'm not surprised Clemson lost to NC State, but I was surprised that they came back to force overtime. Or, rather, that NC State blew the game enough to require OT. Clemson is BAD on offense. Like, REALLY bad.
Tier movement: -1
Virginia Tech
Tight win against FCS Richmond. Uhhh...
Tier movement: none
Miami
Blew out an FCS squad.
Tier movement: none
Pitt
Blew out an FCS squad.
Tier movement: none
Virginia
Virginia had Wake at home on a Friday night and it had all the makings of a nice win before the weekend really got started. But Wake had different ideas... Virginia's defense is NOT good.
Tier movement: none
Louisville
31-7 and then they started to pack it in. They were lucky to escape FSU and FSU is bad. Don't take your foot off the gas at halftime.
Tier movement: none
Syracuse
They beat Liberty by 3 and looked pretty good on defense. That Rutgers loss isn't looking horrible either.
Tier movement: +1
Boston College
This was a good win for BC, even though Mizzou is not really a top tier SEC team. They need to continue winning gritty.
Tier movement: +1
Georgia Tech
I guess I was wrong on their defense. Either Clemson's D is seriously insanely difficult, or North Carolina doesn't really play defense. I think it's somewhere in-between...
Tier movement: +1
North Carolina
Way to get blown out by Georgia Tech, a team no one was scared of. They cannot play defense and if their offense is having an off night? Goodnight Heels.
Tier movement: none
Tier 3
Florida State
0-4 FSU is just sad. They have talent to be 4-0. This is poor coaching. It's crazy to see the team that took ND to the wire struggle against literally everyone. I'm not sure they're going to win more than 1 game (UMass) this year.
Tier movement: none
Duke
I really thought Duke would struggle more against Kansas. They did struggle initially, but things went better for them in the second half.
