It's been a while since I watched some horror. Vamp has been on my list on Tubi for at least a year. It's a movie I've meant to watch for ages but never got around to it. I didn't really know much about it other than the fact that there were vampires (obviously), and I'm not a big vampire guy. Will this one win me over?! Let's find out!
From a casting perspective, you've got some people you may know from other fine films such as Leprechaun 2, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, or Sixteen Candles! I guess Grace Jones has been in some more interesting things, but she literally has zero lines in this movie despite being the main villain. Lots of hissing though. I wish I could say the acting was good but it was typical of the genre. Dedee Pheiffer is super cute. Or was? I have no idea what she looks like now. Imagine someone being Michelle Pfeiffer's sister and being good looking. NO ONE WOULD EVER EXPECT THAT! Speaking of siblings, Ed from Northern Exposure's brother is in this as an albino gang member! I thought it was Ed. They look pretty much identical.
From a story perspective, this movie very clearly influenced From Dusk Til Dawn.
- A bar full of vampires? √
- Two male protagonists? √
- Things go from bad to worse? √
I guess we're just missing Juliette Lewis. Eh, I'd take Dedee Pfeiffer over her anyway.
The story itself is supposed to be comedic but it's not very funny. I chuckled one time when a little vampire latched onto a man's arm. The rest of it is in this weird no man's land between horror and comedy. It's not really too horror-y either. There are vampires, but they're not really all that scary or threatening. They seem pretty inept all things considered.
The one good thing it has going for it is pacing. It's pretty punchy straight out the gates. There's very little "when will something happen?" which to be fair, many newer movies REALLY suffer from. The runtime is about 90 minutes, and I think it felt pretty much exactly like that.

Nah, skip it. It's not bad, but it's not good either.
