Let's continue the series, shall we? I've never seen this one. If the previous movies are any indication, I'm definitely going to LOVE this. 🪦
Let's get started here with some of the more silly parts. This movie is "based on a true story" just like the others. The problem is that their stories have been pretty well debunked as garbage, and only the most willing believe these things are actual hauntings and whatnot. This one focuses WAY too much on kids, which I absolutely hate in movies. Or in real life I guess. I've never liked kids. I find them extremely annoying. The kids in this aren't HORRIBLE actors, but they're definitely not good.Â
The other actors are fine. I like Vera Farmiga as I've stated, and Patrick Wilson plays that dopey fool well. No complaints there. It also has a .. cameo? by Franka Potente. RUN LOLA RUN! (I've never seen that movie but that's what I always think of when I see her)
The pacing in this one is hit or miss. There really isn't much meat on the bone to this one. I would argue they only added the first 20-30 minutes to pad this out because, for whatever reason, horror movies settled on 2 hours+ in the 2010s. You could say they put it in to flesh out the story, but quite frankly it adds absolutely NOTHING to the plot. If anything, it's more confusing. Why do they decide to step away just because people are nay saying? Their whole career has been people nay saying. If they picked this up like a Scooby Doo mystery that they plopped straight into, I think it would've felt tighter and been a better movie.
This is a bit of a spoiler, but in what world is "you know its name so now you control it" a good plot device? This is some Rumpelstiltskin nonsense. There is no real threat throughout the movie. It's more of a constant annoyance to this family. Then these two bozos swoop in and are like "hey Jim, I know your name so you have to cut it out." And Jim, the demon in this scenario, is like "aw shucks, you got me" and goes away. WHAT?

No. It's better than the first, but not by much!
