While Malibu Express was a skeezy, rapey letdown, Hard Ticket to Hawaii was a gem. This little number falls right after HTTH as a sequel with many of the same characters and actors. In theory, this means the story will continue from HTTH, but in practice? I'm not so sure.
Sure, some elements of it did continue, but this movie was downright confusing when it came to a plot. Don't think you can look it up on wikipedia either because it gives a one-liner instead of any plot details. That's not a mistake! There really isn't much of a plot to follow. It did have plenty of odd sex scenes and random nudity which is some form of continuity I suppose.
I can't say much about the acting. It's very similar to HTTH because it's the same people. Good for playmates I suppose, but not like GOOD acting. There were some new faces that were nice to see and some actually good fight scenes here and there.
But you're not here for story and acting and neither am I! The big thing in this movie was bombs. Or at least minor explosives. RC car? BOMB! Boomerang? BOMB! Speargun? BOMB! Crutch? BOMB! The explosions were pretty funny and there were a ton of bad shooters (again).
I think one thing I've seen consistently get better in these movies is the shots of chases. The boat chase in this one in particular is really interesting and has some fun shots. Even the goofy hovercraft fight near the end is pretty cool despite how stupid it was. A jetski and a hovercraft fighting!
Oh yeah, and this movie takes place in Paris, Dallas, Uncertain, Las Vegas, and Maui. Somewhat simultaneously and somewhat not. At some point, the day of the week becomes VERY important.
Last thing to mention is that this agency doesn't arrest anyone, they only murder. They're kind of like the KGB in a journalism school here. Everybody dies in very obviously murdery ways, but for some reason there are never any repercussions. 🤷
