I watched the 2nd movie of this .. series? in March and thought it was a grand old time. It was shlocky and fun, but incredibly stupid. It makes sense to start from the beginning though, doesn't it?! So here we go.
This movie is very different. It's much more softcore porn than it is a movie. While yes, HTTH had a bunch of nudity, it had a story (no matter how dumb) and things happened throughout. This movie was more like a collection of weird 80s male fantasies, including some bizarre redneck family who only wanted to drag race. Why were they in this THREE times?
Malibu Express centers around a cowboy who theoretically lives in Los Angeles, but thematically is living in Texas. Much of the movie is filmed in the Mojave desert but it has an Appalachian soundtrack that makes you think it's filmed in West Virginia. Why does he have a cowhide briefcase? Why can't he shoot anything? Why are there women that he doesn't know going into his boat while he's in the shower? Why does he keep calling a phone sex line when he needs to get information or relay information? These are all questions that may pop into your head as you watch this.
I have another question for the makers of this movie: why is this 1:41 in runtime? There is almost no plot to speak of, only given to the viewer in exposition dump voiceover at the very end. None of the scenes that you watch show or even HINT at what they say happened in the end. Is this a fever dream? Was it a quick way to score some cash on the VHS rental market? I don't know, but it leads me to wonder how they made enough money on THIS to go on to make Hard Ticket. THAT movie was good and funny, but this? No.
