I'm not sure what's up lately, but I've been seeing a lot of stuff with Cristin Milioti. She's great. This movie also has Andy Samberg and he's ALSO good. AND JK Simmons!? Really good cast in this one.
The plot is somewhat familiar in a few ways. It's a time loop situation, so it has some of the extremes of things like Groundhog Day for example. They get into trouble, they do goofy stuff, etc. Basically, they have a lot of fun and suffer a lot of sadness due to being stuck in the same day. It's also a romcom of sorts, so you get the typical meet, fall, separate, reunite that you expect. The execution is what makes it good, though. It's a funny movie with funny beats and the connection between Samberg and Milioti is really solid. You want them to be together not because they're meant for each other or anything goofy like that, but because they clearly make each other enjoy life more. JK Simmons character is a bit of a wild card that you're NOT expecting, but it brings some funny moments as well as some emotional ones.
Pacing is really good because this is a 90 minute movie (with credits - so really it's like 80ish). It's pretty much the perfect movie length. This is definitely more of a comedy than romance, but it is definitely romance-heavy. If you don't know ALREADY, I'm a sucker for these types of movies. Also I secretly love Cristin Milioti now.
