This was another "browsing Tubi" special. I'd seen this movie a couple times, but not enough to really remember all of it. Things started coming back as it went along, but it was still almost like watching it for the first time.
I think one of the problems this movie has is that it's going for that 80s nostalgia pretty hard, especially by casting John Cusack who just doesn't fit in this movie to me. I know he played a bunch of characters IN the 80s (and there's a nod to Better Off Dead in this movie), but older John seems better in weird indie movies or smaller budget quirk-coms than this. The chemistry is off somehow. Clark Duke, Craig Robinson, and Rob Corddry all mesh pretty well. Cusack is like the weird mopey out of place guy. I'm glad Jenny stabbed him in the eye with a fork!
The premise of this is that they go back in time in a hot tub time machine to 1986 and relive one of their "greatest nights" in those bodies. Except Clark, who wasn't alive at that point and is sort of along for the ride. They have to do everything the same or their lives as they know it will be dramatically altered. GASP! Do they do the right things to get it sorted? Lougle it and let me know.
The scenes from the 80s were ok I guess. I love those old 80s ski movies, so I'm happy to see those things again. I would give the fauxback in this movie like a 6 out of 10 on that. The people playing those 80s characters were pretty solid for the most part. I found it funny that they had Collette Wolfe play herself in the 80s and in the 00s. She really looked fine in both too, so I guess kudos to her for being able to pull of a teenager and a 30-something. And speaking of Collette Wolfe, isn't it funny how she, Craig, and Clark were all in The Office in season 9? I guess Craig was in it more than that, but you get what I'm saying. They must get along well!
My favorite part of this movie is Crispin Glover. I know he gets a bad rap for being an oddball, but he's funny in a lot of movies. This one is no different! He plays the grumpy, awful bellhop really well, but then turns around and plays the most jovial and outgoing young .. bellhop!? really well too. I liked how he popped in and had a running storyline that everyone was looking out for. And maybe Craig Robinson calling his then-9 year old wife.
Maybe I should watch the second one since I've never seen it before..

Sure, it's nothing amazing but it's a fun movie and has some really funny lines.
