I vaguely remember when Five Nights at Freddy's came out and became a huge thing in the kids' section at places like Target and Walmart. Because of that, I never really checked it out. WHAT AM I, A BABY? All I knew about this franchise was that it existed. Nothing else. I went into this totally blind, not even watching the trailer.

First things first, this movie has solid acting. It probably shouldn't, but it definitely does. Peeta is here from the Hunger Games! Glad he survived, because I never finished watching any of those movies. He seems a bit scarred from that experience given how he reacts in this movie. The cop, played by Amber Heard's stunt double, was pretty good too. Uh, Cereal Killer makes a cameo too, which if you ask me is PRETTY COOL.

The story of this whole series is much darker than I knew and is kind of surprising that it's marketed toward kids. I don't know what the games are actually like because, AS I HAVE STATED, I haven't ever played them. Though it's dark, it's not really an "adult" movie. I watched it with my teenagers and they enjoyed it.

Speaking solely of this movie, it does drag a bit. I'm not sure why they made it quite so long. There's one scene that repeats MANY TIMES in slightly different variations, but that extends the runtime by quite a bit. I popped into this movie almost 20 minutes in and it still hadn't really gone anywhere. When I asked for a catch-up, they said "nothing happened yet." That's not good. I watched approximately 95 minutes of this movie and it still felt like it was 15 minutes too long. That's a full 30 minutes, probably 40 minutes they could've chopped out to make it better.

Overall, it was entertaining in parts and I wish they focused more on THAT stuff rather than the backstory of Peeta. They don't even show Katniss in the flashbacks, what gives?! I was pleased enough with how it ended and some of the wackiness that happens throughout.

Recommended?

If you have kids that grew up with these characters or know the backstory at all, they'll enjoy it like mine did. And if you have no idea what this is about, it might be even better!
