I've owned this movie for at least 20 years and never once watched it. For some reason I always thought it was some Stephen King movie and they're always pretty poor. It's actually a remake of a 1942 movie of the same name that I also never saw. I knew nothing about this going in.
My first reaction to this movie is that the cast is LOADED. People I would never expect to appear in a horror movie, let alone an "erotic horror" movie.. The stars of it are Nastassja Kinski and Malcolm McDowell as the WERECATS, John Heard (aka Home Alone dad.. or maybe you know him from C.H.U.D.?), Annette O'Toole, Ed Begley Jr, Frankie Faison, .. JOHN LARROQUETTE? It was a treasure trove of people I've seen in so many other things.
Beyond that, this movie is ... weird? I'm not sure how else to describe it. I don't want to tell you the plot, so without spoiling things, there's some attempted incest (plus stories of past incest), full on black panthers, and ... interspecies erotica. There are also a few topless ladies. The effects in this movie are ok overall, if a little odd. I guess everything in this feels a bit odd.
The pacing SUCKS though. It's almost 2 hours and it just drags so much. For how little actually happens in this movie, it takes forever to get there. I wanted to like this (especially for the David Bowie theme song!), but it really didn't want me to like it.
Recommended?
No. It's too weird.
