I have heard precisely ONE person ever mention this movie and he said he liked it. No other info other than a passing comment about enjoying it. I hadn't heard of it before that and really haven't heard anything about it since, but here I was tonight fiddling around on justwatch.com looking for some recs and I saw THIS on there. You know what? Let's give it a whirl!

There is an interesting way this movie shows the relationships between characters. It starts out with a scene where two young ladies are kissing, then one of them says "I love you." Ah, they must be in a long-term relationship! BUT ARE THEY? Then you're introduced to people who visibly do not want this couple around, but they also all seem to be annoyed by each other in general. It's very cliquey and while I'm sure there are male groups like this, it seems really common to have girl groups like this that constantly backstab each other. I've had multiple girl friends in my life who have complained about this sort of silliness.

In terms of acting, this movie is fine. I recognized Pete Davidson and Borat's daughter from subsequent moviefilm. None of the others looked familiar to me at all. If I had to pick out a couple standouts, I thought Alice and Greg were both good.

The movie pacing is pretty decent, though there are a few lulls here and there. The problem is that the WHODUNNIT? starts pretty early on, which means it has to drag along for 90% of the movie. They don't even really try to solve it, they stumble around doing some pretty odd stuff given the situation they find themselves in. The mystery isn't even really the point of the movie from what I can tell. It comes off as a satire of young folks in general. Pete Davidson's character even has a rant about "internet slang" and that the terms are so overused as to be meaningless. That doesn't stop them from talking about triggers, trauma, mental health, etc in a setting that's pretty funny. I understand the annoyance with all of the self-important "main character" people, but it was maybe too on the nose for me.

That said, the ending made me laugh and I guess that's a good thing.

Recommended?

I don't think I would. Although it was mostly entertaining, it seems like it's going to be one I forget about.
