ON A ROLL TODAY! I had never heard of this, but saw Katie Aselton directed it and came up with the story. That seemed like enough to give it a go.
This one is a bit tough to grade because I feel like it was kind of a retread of some stuff I've seen, but in a different way. Was it different enough?
From the casting side, I bought the trio of girls and trio of guys as real buddies. They all seemed like they could be real friends. For all I know, they actually ARE friends in real life. I know Lake Bell appeared in The League as the white knuckler. I also bought Sarah getting the girls back together after some tense time apart for what was a group of childhood buddies.
The movie is relatively short at 80 minutes, but I think it was paced pretty well. It only lasts about 24 hours of in-movie time, so if it were longer, it probably would've felt padded. There were some bits of it that maybe handwaved a little bit or were somewhat confusing, but overall it was solid.
The biggest thing this movie did for me is make me want to buy an island off the coast of Maine. I know you can do that, but do I have money for an island?! You and I both know the answer to this.
Recommended?
It was pretty good, so yeah. Good acting, solid plot, good pacing. Go for it.
