ACC

ACC Week In Review

Each conference has their power tier teams, a middle tier, and then.. the rest. The ACC is no different. We'll go tier by tier and see if any teams have shifted each week. Coming into this week, that tiered system went as follows:

Tier 1: Clemson

Tier 2: Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Miami, Pitt, Virginia, NC State

Tier 3: Florida State, Louisville, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Duke

Tier 1

Clemson

Oh god this game was ugly. They had a huge weather delay in the middle of it, but it was 7-3 at that point. The final was 14-8 and felt like it was more of a 2-0 sort of game. Clemson's offense is flat-out awful. I don't think they win the ACC this year.

Tier movement: none

Tier 2

North Carolina

High-scoring affair at home against Virginia! It was an exciting shootout sort of game, but it showed (yet again) that UNC doesn't play defense. Like, at all. Their offense is finally hitting on all cylinders though. Part of me thinks they can beat Clemson, the other part of me thinks their miserable defense will make Clemson's offense look good.

Tier movement: none

Virginia Tech

Tough loss to West Virginia. They almost came back, but they went into such a hole early. 24-7 at half, they outscored WVU by 11 points in the second half. It wasn't enough, obviously. They need to work out some kinks on defense and play a complete game. They haven't done that yet.

Tier movement: none

Miami

Getting blown out by Alabama is expected. Getting blown out by Michigan State is not expected. This game wasn't really very close. Miami was dominated by Green in pretty much every facet of the game. I guess it made sense that Miami went with their orange jerseys, because they definitely aren't the better green team. This team continues to be overrated every year. Diaz is probably not the guy.

Tier movement: none

Pitt

I'm not a Mountaineers fan but Pitt really does eat shit. At least this year. I don't understand the way they blow these games. Western Michigan has a good offense, sure, but defense is supposed to be Pitt's thing. If you score 41 on a MAC school, you shouldn't lose. Narduzzi should be feeling some heat. He's been there since 2015 and has won one bowl game. I don't see this team winning much outside of the ACC.

Tier movement: none

Virginia

UVa played pretty well against UNC. They desperately need some playmakers on defense, though. You can't give up 699 yards of offense in a game. That's like 3 games worth. Their offense looks good and had some really fun plays going on but they can't run the ball at all. They rushed more times (22) than they had yards gained (21). That's pretty pathetic.

Tier movement: none

NC State

Beat an FCS team.

Tier movement: none

Louisville

Really exciting game against UCF. They probably shouldn't have won, but they did. I wasn't impressed with their defense, but their offense could move the ball pretty well when they needed to.

Tier movement: +1

Tier 3

Wake Forest

Wake came off their FCS win and treated FSU like they were an FCS team. The game was basically over at halftime when it was 27-14. This was at various points 14-0, 21-7, and 24-7 before ending 35-14. They ran all over the Noles, but they also threw all over them. Good conference win.

Tier movement: none

Florida State

FSU followed up their horrific loss to JSU with a blowout. I mean, they got blown out. By Wake. The team is poorly coached, sure, but have you thought about how they're historically good?! Uhh..

Tier movement: none

Syracuse

Cool FCS win.

Tier movement: none

Boston College

Temple was a pretty good football team when Rhule was coaching them. That seems like forever ago now. This wasn't an impressive win when you consider Rutgers put 61 up on the same team.

Tier movement: none

Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech showed some life by playing Clemson tough, but their offense is basically non-existent. I also really don't like how they wear all white instead of the old gold and navy. What's up with that!?

Tier movement: none

Duke

Good job beating up Northwestern. They're bad. You're bad, too. But you're not as bad as they are bad. Get it?
