I don't know why I skipped doing a little review of this when I watched it, but HEY, I DID. Actually, I may not have been doing this cool creedthoughts blog at that point. I'm absolved of any wrongdoing!
While I liked Kills and was not a fan of Ends, I think this one is a really good sequel to the first Halloween. It was clearly made with a lot of care and concern for highlighting moments from the original that made it great, including the score, some general sound cues, and a few turned-on-their-head sequences that I won't go further into to avoid spoilers.
For the most part, this movie is quite good. The story largely works, though there's a whole section with the Podcasters that could be left on the cutting room floor and we wouldn't have lost a single thing. They are a plot device to get Michael his mask and that's really it. They could've done this in a different way with his new doctor that really would've made it more interesting.
The pacing is hit or miss. It has really tight parts and then parts that DRAG without building tension. They could've cut a solid 15 minutes out of this movie and it would've hit much harder.
The cast was great and I'm not just saying that because I love Judy Greer (but I definitely do). You get Will Patton, Toby Huss, and I guess Miles Robbins is worth mentioning (he's not really a big actor but he was in The Quarry which I really liked). People act appropriately for the most part. The little kid Julian that she babysits was excellent. "Send Dave up there!" I'm still not sure what Myers was doing in his room...

Yeah. This is probably the best 1-2 story wrap-up if you watch 78 and 18 back to back (and ignore all of the others). I personally live by the 1-2-4-5-6 timeline because it came first, but 78-18 is definitely better in terms of movies and story.
