Well well well, the final Friday! Wait, isn't that what they called Jason Goes to Hell?! This one actually IS the final Friday though, because it was so stupid that no one wanted to make another one.
Here's the problem with this specific iteration of reboots: they took a source that was goofy and beloved and then squeezed all the charm out of it, tried to grit it up some, and released it like it was "actually scary." It's not scary, though. It tries to do SOME of the silliness from the 80s ones, but it never hits the mark. It's just kind of soulless.
There's nothing particularly wrong with any of the actors in it, either. They're all .. fine? The story itself is ok, though the end could really use some work. The pacing is NOT, however. It has a lot of action early and then it's sort of in spurts later on. The last 30 minutes drags pretty badly and could've been wrapped up 20 minutes sooner.
One of the most annoying things about this is that it's meant to be like a reboot of parts 1-4, but it doesn't really take anything from those movies other than the broad strokes. Part 4 may be the best movie in the series and they totally miss what makes it great. Even Part 3, when he gets his hockey mask, is totally skimmed over. The ONLY thing that took from that was the hockey mask itself. It seems like someone was enamored with the idea of Hillbilly Jason from Part 2 and took it to an extreme conclusion.
At one point an NPC in this says people who wander on his land get killed. Ok, great, but he invades multiple different plots of land in this movie. And who is paying his power bill!? OH, AND WHO MADE ALL OF THE TUNNELS?! And the traps?? The more you think about this movie, the dumber it is.
Recommended?
No. It sounds like I hated it and while I did NOT enjoy it, I'd say I'm pretty much neutral on this ... thing.
