I have no business watching this movie as many times as I have, although this time I was on a work trip and wanted something kind of mindless to watch before bed. It was either this or Tik Tok!

I think at this point everyone knows what this movie is. It's a goofy cheerleading movie that also slaps in some inner-city school vs suburb school tension. That's a nice way of saying it's a racially tense movie! The Rancho Carne Toros are perennial cheerleading champs, but it looks like their old captain was stealing those moves from an inner-city squad in Los Angeles! Rude. Will they be able to find their way back to nationals without those routines!? FIND OUT IN BRING IT ON!

Kirsten Dunst stars in this with Eliza Dushku. They're probably the most age appropriate actors in this outside of a few of the Clovers cheerleaders. There are some people in it who are definitely TOO OLD to be in a high school cheerleading movie (AHEM, Gabrielle Union), but it's fine. There are some fun cameos in this movie too (particularly Ian Roberts as Sparky Polastri) that always make me laugh. The characters are, for the most part, paper-thin and extreme stereotypes. It works, though. This movie isn't asking for much, it knows what it is and doesn't shy away from it at all.

I'm personally not a big fan of the Torrance and Aaron subplot. It takes away from the funnier parts of the movie and only really serves as a sort of stumbling block for her new romantic interest. They could've cut it and saved us some time and really the movie wouldn't have felt any worse without it. The movie clocks in at 99 minutes, so let's say we cut out that extra 10-ish minutes of Aaron, huh?

What's funniest about this movie to me is how many stupid lines I still say in my regular life that come from it. I mean, I still say things about Toros being in the atmosphere. I think that means this movie was a success.

Recommended?

Yeah, it's a classic goofy high school movie. Plus it has Joey from Hackers in it.
