I have watched oceans of time of this movie. What? You get what I'm saying, I've seen this a lot. I think the first time I saw it was probably like 1995, maybe earlier. From the first time I saw it, I was all about it. The acting in this movie is great, no matter what they say about Keanu and Winona! The accents are poor, sure, but Tom Waits has a great accent! Gary Oldman is incredible too. I think he's one of my favorite actors of all time.

This movie gets a bad rap for being an interpretation of the Dracula story, but quite frankly I think it adds the depth necessary for that to really take the screen. Not only that, but this particular incarnation of Dracula is intense, dark, brooding, vengeful, loving, romantic. He's an amazing character and Oldman really embraces the spite in this role. The Dracula of the novel is a bit thin and uninteresting. I've read it three times, each time hoping I'll like it more, but while I do like it, it doesn't compare to this version.

It's worth mentioning that the effects in this movie, all being practical, really enhance the whole thing. It has this surreal feeling to it but also keeps it from being an "of the time" special effects movie. I still love the shadow fights they show of the Ottomans and Romanians.

Oh yeah, this is peak Monica Bellucci too.

Recommended?

Yeah, it's the best version of the Dracula story.
