Another classic from my childhood. I can't even count how many times I've seen this movie, though the last time I saw it was probably somewhere in the mid-90s. It's been AGES. But this is the type of movie where I've seen it so many times that I remember literally everything before it happens. It's amazing how these lines have wedged themselves into my memory.
Since this is a parody, I'm not going to talk much about the acting. It's good, but it's also incredibly silly. Rick Moranis is so good in his role as Lord Dark Helmet. I think this might be his best movie he's ever made. Mel Brooks is great. Bill Pullman is fine. John Candy is good. Daphne Zuniga is quite good. Joan Rivers is Joan Rivers. George Wyner is great. I'm going to stop there. There truly is no weak spot in this roster.
One thing that is a bit tough about this movie is how dated so many of the references are. My kids have no idea wtf is happening in this movie. Maybe that's a bonus? I don't know. It has a nostalgia factor for me, so I can't accurately judge how funny it still is. I kind of hate Yogurt. There's something very off-putting about him.
If Pizza the Hut is half man, half pizza and I'm half man, half donut.. what should my name be?!
Recommended?
Yes. It's still funny TO ME at least.
