Have I mentioned my love of sailing? It doesn't really apply here exactly, but I did watch Captain Ron recently (sort of, I was building a pirate ship puzzle and had it on in the background) and that also had Kurt Russell. This is frequently mentioned in the same breath as that movie, so I figured I'd check it out.

I like Kurt Russell in pretty much everything I've seen him in. He picks some interesting movies, particularly in recent years. I'm not sure I would call this one interesting, since the plot feels a bit corny/Hollywood, but he does embody that mid-late 80s single dad vibe pretty well. Goldie Hawn was good as the insufferable rich woman who morphs into mawwwwww. That's like a drawn out way of saying 'mom,' not a combination of mom and aww. I guess some people would feel that way about it. There are other characters in this movie but they're really so minor that it doesn't matter that much.

This movie gave me wild nostalgia for "those days." The times before the internet took over and people used to go hang out at bowling alleys and bars regularly. I know some people still do this, so maybe it's more of an assault on my own personality... Nevertheless, there was something magical about that time in my life where I didn't know what was going on or why but went along for the ride. I bet I'd feel this way about stupid things like 3 Ninjas Kick back too though.

Like I mentioned before, the premise of this movie is pretty corny. Rich woman hires poor guy to do a job. Rich woman hates job/man, man hates woman. Woman fires man. Through a series of events, they become close and reverse their positions on one another. When you boil it down, it's a common baseline. What makes this one work (and I'm assuming why people consider it a classic) is the dynamic between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. They should get together in real life! But that'd be crazy, they're just actors.

Recommended?

Hmm, sure. It's not great but it's entertaining enough. It's a rom-com, so know that going in.
