This movie is marked as "black comedy horror." The last time I saw it was over 20 years ago, and I only remember this because my ex-lady was a fan of it and bought it on DVD. I had seen it before that previously but I don't think it was ever too memorable outside of the dick nose.

And guess what! That's the only thing I really remembered going into this again. Dan Akroyd's judge character is horrific. The hot dog scene is so disturbing. I know it's a comedy and the horror isn't really "horror" in the way of like Halloween, but it's so GROSS.

Chevy Chase plays Chevy Chase in this movie, so I guess it wasn't difficult for him. Demi Moore is probably at her peak, although her hair is awful. The latin siblings are quite annoying, which I think is their purpose. John Candy is pretty good. You're not going to watch this and think "I wish the acting were better."  Oh yeah, it also has Digital Underground in it, including a young Tupac!

I recently saw an interview with Dan Akroyd that said this movie is a "good enough" little movie that suffered from bad timing. I suppose it is decent enough, but it suffers from being a bit too zany. It's kind of like a weird Scooby-Doo, Gilligan's Island, slapsticky type of thing while also being a gross-out costume-heavy visual gag movie. I still don't understand the point of Digital Underground being in this movie. I can only assume Akroyd either loved the group and wanted to pop them in OR they had the same management and it was a forced issue.

In the end, this is a sort of The Hills Have Eyes, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, generic "backwoods inbred family hates outsiders" movie that is more confusing than it is funny or horrifying.

Recommended?

No. It's not bad but it's not good either. Why have I seen this so many times?
