Let's ring in the 250 year celebration of the US by watching a movie that is describing a second civil war! How much fun is THAT?

I heard about this movie before it came out because of the crazy amount of press it got given the whole 2024 election, impending Trump-ness, MAGA takeover, etc. I also heard a lot of people who watched it say "you need to see it" because it will show you why you don't want this to happen, it's too realistic, etc. It probably is realistic in many cases, though the angle of this movie is from that of the press. That makes it a bit harder to really feel as a normal citizen.

There's a bit where they stroll through a town that is "blisfully avoiding" taking any sides, but the real odd part of this movie is that it seems very much one-sided as a whole. There is the "Western Forces" vs a very, very small group of dedicated people to a president who is trying to assure everyone that everything is fine. Could this happen with Trump or someone like him? Probably. It's hard to imagine my neighbors turning on me for really no reason, but it's possible I suppose.

Does this movie do anything to push me one way or the other on that feeling? It does not. Again, this is a very press-oriented, small cast look at things happening. It's their little road trip to try to get to DC to interview the president before his little scheme is undone. They do face internal conflict, but to be perfectly honest none of these characters pulled me in at all. It was a largely flat script, flat story, and kind of boring movie.

Recommended?

No. It was way overhyped, way oversold. It plays itself very seriously and never feels like it delivers.
