What a cast for this one! Ethan Embry!?!? Sorry, I mean Kate Beckinsale and Owen Wilson!? It's weird to think that they agreed to this. This movie is played serious, so maybe that's it.

I guess we can talk about the general premise. This is pre-"good" cell phones, so I can understand some of it. They take a weird turn and end up on back roads at night. For some reason his engine makes a clunking sound after swerving to avoid a raccoon..? This is probably the biggest stretch of the movie! Let's suppose that makes sense somehow, though. These people stop at a gas station where some random dude pops up at almost 2am to help them. Why would he be working at 2am at this gas station? In a town of .. who even knows .. why would they need 24 hour service. Oddly, he says he's about to leave for the night, so WHAT FORTUNATE TIMING. The rest of the story is motel shenanigans as implied by the name "Vacancy." I'm not going to spoil the amazing story for you.

The acting is fine, if over the top at times, but for horror, it's really good. The story is meh and feels a bit done, though not quite in this way. The ending was a bit too rushed feeling given the other bits that happened. It becomes one of those movies where things happen to make the story go rather than it's because of how people would act in that situation.

Recommended?

Overall, it's fine. It's not good or bad, it just is. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you say you want to see it, I'm not talking you out of it either.
