If you've read my reviews of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest already, you have an idea of where this is going.

You only get two new "major" characters in this, with Tom Hollander showing up as Lord Cutler Beckett and Chow Yun-Fat coming in as Sao Feng. They're both barely in this, so don't get too excited if those are your favorite actors. Sao Feng only exists to give Elizabeth Swann power and credibility with pirates. Cutler Beckett only exists to control Davy Jones and cause chaos for the pirates. They're paper-thin.

I mentioned the run time of each of the others, so here you go: this movie runs 2:48 and has no business being that long. There are massive scenes that go on FOREVER and add nothing. Not to mention all of the little Jack Sparrow bits that I found insanely irritating.

What this movie does have going for it is that Geoffrey Rush takes on a major role again. He's the best part of this movie and it's not even close. I enjoyed most of the scenes he was in.

Let me tell you why this movie is stupid though. It takes Tia Dalma's story and turns her into a chained Goddess. Not only that, but the former lover of Davy Jones, who had her turned into human form because she "tricked" him somehow. Davy Jones goes from this sort of ferryman of the dead to a scorned lover bent on revenge and it doesn't work. Worse than that, he is fully controlled by Beckett having his heart in a box somewhere. It's a whole STOP HITTING YOURSELF scenario with the pirates. And it's dumb. The absolute worst bit of this heart-control thing is that SPOILERS! at the end, Jack Sparrow is holding it and instead of it giving him any control over Davy Jones, he is forced to kill him to make him stop. Why? How does this make sense? Why can't he just control him now like Beckett did? Well you see, if he does that, he won't be able to turn Will Turner into the new captain of the Flying Dutchman!

It's all stupid and annoying. They tanked the characters to tell an incredibly dumb love story.

Recommended?

No. It ruins so many of the characters and their motivations.
