I had heard of this but knew nothing about it other than Nicolas Cage was in it. That really doesn't mean much because he's been in so many different types of movies.
What do I have to say about this movie? Hmm. It's kind of like a crime thriller with occult type of stuff. It reminded me of True Detective season 1 a bit. There was tension from the very beginning through the end which was good. After seeing it though, I'm a little bit confused on some things. I can't go into them here without spoiling so you'll have to watch it and see for yourself I guess.
The acting was good! I was glad to see Alicia Witt. The woman who played Lee Harker was really good. I didn't recognize her face or name but it turns out she was in It Follows too. Huh. Blair Underwood was also quite good. I actually have no complaints at all about the acting.
The story probably works really well on a certain type of person. I am not that person, unfortunately. I still enjoyed it though I think.
Recommended?
If you go into it looking for a crime thriller, YES. If you're looking for "horror", like pure horror, probably not.
