I saw this on Tubi when I was searching for something to watch. It popped up in Horror and in Mystery, so I figured I'd give it a go. I knew nothing about this movie going in and quite frankly there isn't much out there about it even after watching it.
This is sort of like an experimental movie that presents almost like a slasher, but really is a whodunnit. I LOVE whodunnits when they're done well. Even kind of bad ones are pretty good. Make sure you remember that I'm incredibly biased here.
Casting-wise, I didn't know anyone except the dude from Mallrats. He was not super recognizable at first due to bloating up, but he was actually really quite good. I thought all of the acting was pretty good overall. It's a small cast in a one-set location for 90% of the movie, so you really get to "know" the individuals on the screen over the 1:35 or whatever this ran.
The basic outline of this movie is a slasher "event" at the very beginning, then a whodunnit in a small diner immediately after the police arrive. Conveniently, the diner is a 24-hour spot. Also conveniently, everyone has potential to be a suspect. DUN DUN DUNNNNN.
Before I get to any issues I have with this, I want to let you know that the camera work, the lighting, the set are all REALLY GOOD. It almost felt like a passion project in that regard. I couldn't find a single fault with the way this movie was shot and that's hard to do in a WHODUNNIT type of movie. So yeah, kudos to these folks for putting together a really nice looking movie.
THAT SAID, this movie has one massive issue. Shockingly, the whodunnit is incredibly poorly written. Instead of leaving clues throughout that you can actually see, they have to play them back in flashback sequences. Not only that, but there is such a massive red herring that it kind of ruined the whole thing. It wasn't one of those "I think it's X" the whole time and it turns out to be Y. It was more of "it turned out to be Y! .. JUST KIDDING IT WAS Z!" where they sort of resolve the mystery and then handwave it away to add a new layer on top. Leave the last 15-ish minutes out and the movie feels much better. I'm not sure why they did it this way. This was the entire point of the movie and they kind of botched it horrifically.
Recommended?
I wanted to say yes, but no. The last 15 minutes really killed it. If you cut that ending? I'd give this a solid 7.
